About Skyscanner

Everyone loves travelling, but planning is not without its challenges ✈️. That’s why we’ve spent 20 years building tools that turn travel-planning chaos into a breeze. Today, around 160 million travellers count on us every month to skip the whole “47 browser tabs open” phase and find flights, cars, and hotels quickly and easily.

Joining Skyscanner means becoming part of a global brand that’s striving to become the planet’s go-to travel hack accessible for all 🌍.

Our vision? To be the world’s number one travel ally. (Ambitious? Yes, but, hey, that’s what got us here)

About the role:

We’re launching our Modern Apprenticeship Programme in Software Engineering: a brand-new pathway into tech for people ready to learn, build and start their career without taking the traditional university route.

Based in our Glasgow office, you’ll join Skyscanner as a full-time employee on an  18-month fixed-term contract  while working towards an SVQ Level 8 in Software Development. You’ll spend four days a week embedded in engineering teams, with one protected learning day dedicated to your qualification and development.

What you’ll be doing:

• Learning by building:  You’ll develop real software engineering skills while contributing to work that helps millions of travellers explore the world more easily.

• Joining engineering teams:  You’ll spend four days a week working alongside Skyscanner engineers, learning how modern tech teams plan, build, test and ship.

• Studying with support:  You’ll work towards an SVQ Level 8 in Software Development with QA, with dedicated learning time built into your week.

• Getting to know Skyscanner:  You’ll take part in structured onboarding covering our tools, teams, ways of working and all the “what does that acronym mean?” essentials.

• Building professional confidence:  You’ll grow your communication, teamwork and workplace skills through tailored development and support.

• Learning safely and steadily:  You’ll have regular check-ins, mentoring and guidance from managers, teams and our Emerging Talent crew.

• Helping shape the future:  As part of our first pilot cohort, your experience will help us build an even better apprenticeship pathway for future talent.

About you:

• Curious about technology:  You’re excited by software engineering and keen to understand how great digital products are built.

• Some academic foundations help:  You must have National 5 qualifications in Maths and English, plus at least one Higher qualification.

• Problem-solving minded:  You enjoy figuring things out, whether that’s spotting patterns, fixing bugs or making something work better.

• Collaborative by nature:  You like learning with others, sharing ideas and being part of a team.

• Open to feedback:  You’re comfortable trying, learning, improving and occasionally discovering that the computer was right
