The role
Our Backend Engineers assume development and operational responsibility for the HelloFresh platform that serves millions globally to deliver the best experience for our customers and internal users.

What you’ll do
• An active, solution-oriented member of autonomous, cross-functional agile teams collaborating with Product Managers, Engineers, Data teams, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into simple and reliable solutions.
• Design, build, and maintain backend services and internal products that support headcount planning, staffing and optimization along with operational decision-making.
• Contribute to the development of a global platform used by planners across multiple HelloFresh markets.
• Drive automation initiatives that improve the efficiency and scalability of planning processes.
• Work with large and interconnected datasets to support planning, and optimization use cases.
• Contribute to code reviews, technical discussions, and engineering best practices within the team.
• Experience writing unit/integration/function test cases, as well as with formalized testing methodologies (i.e. TDD, BDD)
• Take ownership of problems from discovery through implementation and continuous improvement.
What you’ll bring
• The team primarily works with Python. Candidates from other backend ecosystems are welcome, provided you have some familiarity with Python and are eager to work with it as your primary language.
• Solid software engineering fundamentals, including API design, testing, debugging, and writing maintainable code.
• Comfort working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and writing efficient SQL queries.
• Background working with event-driven architectures using Kafka
• Familiarity with cloud-native development and modern engineering tooling, such as Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and observability practices.
• A proactive, self-driven approach to problem solving and the ability to navigate ambiguity while driving solutions forward.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach when partnering with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience using AI-powered tools to enhance software development workflows and a curiosity for exploring how AI can improve engineering productivity.
• Any additional familiarity with React (or any other modern frontend technologies) is a plus.
