Startup Content Marketing Manager

at Open AI

OpenAI is seeking a Startup Content Marketing Manager to work closely with founders building new products, turning technical discoveries into founder stories, practical guides, demos, and campaigns.

Job Description

About the Team

Like every team at OpenAI, the Marketing team contributes to our broader mission of ensuring responsible and widespread adoption of AI. With that aim in mind, we are responsible for developing and executing strategies that drive awareness, engagement, and usage for OpenAI’s products and platform amongst our core audiences.

We take a data-driven approach to understand our customers' needs and challenges, ensuring that their voices are reflected in product development and messaging. We then partner closely with product, engineering, developer relations, comms, and sales teams to create a cohesive customer experience across all our channels.

Our focus extends beyond just promoting product features; we aim to provide valuable insights and resources that help our users make the most out of AI technologies.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Startup Content Marketing Manager who loves technology and wants to work closely with the founders building new products and companies with OpenAI.

At OpenAI, you’ll work inside the company building the models and directly with founders turning those capabilities into new products and companies. You’ll try what they’re building and dig into the ideas, technical choices, and lessons behind their work. You’ll turn those discoveries into founder stories, practical guides, demos, and campaigns that help other builders see what’s possible and imagine what they could create next.

This is a high-agency, hands-on individual-contributor role. You’ll own campaigns from the first founder conversation through publication and results. You’ll work with startup customers, ecosystem partners, and colleagues across OpenAI, with room to follow a promising idea, try an unexpected format, and make something founders genuinely want to read, watch, and share.

In this role, you will

  • Build relationships with founders and technical teams, get hands-on with their products, and uncover stories and practical lessons other builders can apply to their own work.
  • Own defined startup content campaigns from the first idea and creative brief through production, distribution, and measurement.
  • Support co-marketing programs with startup customers and ecosystem partners, helping turn their work into stories that are valuable to both the featured company and the wider founder community.
  • Write, create, and coordinate founder profiles, customer stories, practical guides, demos, and other content across social, email, events, partner channels, and founder communities.
  • Partner with field and events teams to capture compelling ideas, conversations, and product moments, then turn them into content that reaches well beyond the room.
  • Work with startup GTM, customer marketing, product marketing, social, and communications to make each story accurate, distinctive, and useful to its intended audience.
  • Build clear briefs, editorial calendars, and repeatable workflows that help good ideas move quickly from discovery to publication.
  • Define success, track performance, and use audience feedback and data to improve the stories, formats, and channels you pursue next.

You might thrive in this role if you

  • Have 4+ years of experience in B2B, content, customer, or integrated marketing.
  • Have worked with startup, founder, builder, or developer audiences and understand what earns their attention and trust.
  • Can point to content campaigns or co-marketing programs you helped bring to life, explain your contribution, and show what you learned from the results.
  • Take ownership of a defined project, make sound decisions with incomplete information, and keep work moving through ambiguity.
  • Proactively identify and resolve blockers, flag risks early, and know when to ask for a decision, more context, or cross-functional support.
  • Build strong relationships with founders, customers, and colleagues, and can bring people with different priorities together around a clear plan.
  • Lov
