Toast is looking for a Senior Manager of Security to lead our enterprise security function at a pivotal moment in the company's growth. This is a senior, outward-facing leadership role responsible for setting Toast's multi-year security strategy, owning executive and cross-functional relationships, and ensuring the company's security posture scales with our global ambitions. The Senior Manager manages an Associate Manager who owns day-to-day global security operations and technology consultancy, allowing the Senior Manager to focus on strategy, governance, and organizational impact. This role reports to the Senior Director, Workplace Experience & Facilities, and partners closely with Legal, Compliance, Engineering, Finance, and HR to embed security across the organization.
A day in the life (Responsibilities):
• Strategy & Vision: Own and drive Toast's multi-year security strategy aligned to business objectives; translate the risk landscape into actionable, prioritized security programs
• Executive Engagement: Act as the primary security liaison to Senior Leadership, Legal, Compliance, and key stakeholders; communicate risk and program status at the executive level
• Governance & Budget: Own security budget planning, forecasting, headcount decisions, organizational design, and strategic partnership management
• Cross-Functional Leadership: Drive enterprise-wide security initiatives across Engineering, Legal, HR, Finance, and Operations; champion a culture of security awareness across Toast
• Crisis Management & Risk Assessment: Lead org response to security incidents and emergencies, serving as the primary decision-maker to minimize operational impact and ensure business continuity
• Team Leadership: Directly manage the Associate Manager, Security; define team structure, career paths, and development programs
• Policy & Compliance: Ensure security policies, standards, and controls are current, documented, and enforced across the organization
• Metrics & Program Health: Define and oversee security KPIs, SLAs, and executive reporting cadences; hold the team accountable to measurable outcomes and continuous improvement
What you’ll need to thrive (Requirements):
• 10+ years of progressive security leadership experience
• Proven ability to develop and execute enterprise security strategy in a fast-paced, scaling environment
• Strong executive communication skills — able to translate complex risk into clear, business-oriented language
• Experience managing security budgets, headcount, and organizational design
• Track record of building cross-functional relationships at the VP / C-suite level
• Deep knowledge of security governance frameworks, compliance requirements, and risk management
