About this role
In 1945, elevator operators walked out of New York's office buildings. The city ground to a halt with millions of workers stuck on the street and a hundred million in losses. Automatic elevators had existed since the 1890s. Nobody would ride one without a person at the controls. It took the strike, and the decade after it, building trust car by car, building by building, before people would step into a box and press a button themselves.
At Mercury, we’re building for the building class: those who act on their ambition, who see something that doesn't exist and decide to make it real with their time, money, and team . Whether that's a side project or a scaling unicorn. We build the financial stack for them.
We believe the future of financial software is infrastructure that works on your behalf. We’re looking for a product leader to accelerate our AI bets – Command, CLI, MCP – and our API as we build towards a Mercury that is programmable and intelligent. This is a role for a builder who is capable across the stack with hands-on experience building with AI.
*Mercury is a fintech company, not an FDIC-insured bank. Banking services provided through Choice Financial Group and Column N.A., Members FDIC.
As part of the journey, we would expect you to:
• Develop a deep understanding of how Mercury's most technical customers use our product today, and what they're trying to do that they can't yet
• Lead the product vision for how our AI products – Command, CLI, MCP – transform the way people interact with their finance stack: from asking questions about their business to taking action on their behalf
• Define Mercury's strategy for connecting to the broader ecosystem of AI tools; build and automate the workflow end to end using Command, CLI, MCP, and the rest of our AI stack
• Own the roadmap for Mercury's API and drive it from niche, read-heavy usage toward a comprehensive platform that enables customers to build on top of Mercury
• Partner with engineering to make hard technical tradeoffs about interfaces, API design, data access, and capabilities: you should be able to hold your own in these conversations
• Work closely with Mercury's growth and partnerships teams to ensure our AI products are a competitive advantage in acquisition and retention
• Navigate a high-velocity environment where leadership cares deeply about this space and expects you to move fast and think originally
Some things that might make you successful in a role like this:
• You're genuinely excited about what's happening in AI right now and are actively building with these tools
• Have strong opinions about AI products and the judgment to recognize fast when one of them is wrong. You're not waiting for someone to tell you what's possible
• 10+ years of experience building — as a founder or product manager — including meaningful time owning product decisions end-to-end
• Be dangerous across the stack and able to grapple directly with complex concepts; ha
