NDLEA Recruitment 2026: Application Guide & Official Portal
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) regularly recruits qualified Nigerians into its operational and administrative ranks. NDLEA recruitment is one of the most competitive in Nigeria — this guide shows you exactly how to apply, what they look for, and how to stand out.
⚠️ Beware of scams: Legitimate Nigerian government recruitment is always FREE. Never pay anyone claiming to process your application. The only official portal is listed below.
About NDLEA
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency was established under Decree 48 of 1989 (now amended under the 2004 NDLEA Act) with the mandate to combat the illicit production, distribution, and use of hard drugs in Nigeria.
Today, NDLEA operates in every state of the federation with command centres at major airports, seaports, and border posts. Under the current Chairman, the agency has intensified operations significantly, leading to an expansion of its workforce and periodic recruitment windows.
Working at NDLEA is a career in law enforcement with significant risk, rigorous training, and strong pension benefits under the Paramilitary Pension Scheme. It is a good fit for physically fit Nigerians who want to serve their country.
Ranks & Cadres Available
NDLEA recruitment typically opens across three main cadres: Superintendent Cadre, Inspectorate Cadre, and Assistant Cadre. Each has different educational requirements.
Superintendent Cadre (Assistant Superintendent Narcotics - ASN II): Requires a Bachelor's degree or HND from a recognised institution. Preferred courses include Law, Accounting, Computer Science, Pharmacy, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, and Languages (Arabic, French, Spanish).
Inspectorate Cadre (Inspector of Narcotics - INN): Requires OND, NCE, or A-Level qualifications. Minimum 5 credits in SSCE including English and Mathematics.
Assistant Cadre (Assistant Narcotics Agent - ANA): Entry-level paramilitary role. Minimum requirement is SSCE with 5 credits including English and Mathematics. Applicants must be physically fit.
Eligibility Requirements
Nationality: You must be a Nigerian citizen by birth. Dual nationality is generally not accepted for operational ranks.
Age: Between 18 and 30 years for Assistant Cadre. Up to 35 for Inspectorate and Superintendent Cadre.
Height: Minimum 1.7m (5'7") for males and 1.64m (5'4") for females. This is strictly enforced during physical screening.
Chest measurement: Minimum 87cm for males (fully expanded). No such requirement for females.
Physical fitness: You must be able to complete agility tests — running, push-ups, obstacle course. Training at the NDLEA Academy is intensive.
Character: No criminal record, no membership in secret cults, no dismissal from any public service. Character clearance from your local government is required.
Medical fitness: You will undergo medical screening at an accredited hospital. Conditions like sickle cell anaemia, epilepsy, or severe vision problems disqualify applicants.
How to Apply for NDLEA Recruitment 2026
Step 1: Confirm the recruitment is officially open. Check recruitment.ndlea.gov.ng directly and the NDLEA verified social media pages on X (Twitter) and Facebook. Never trust random WhatsApp messages or blog posts claiming the portal is open.
Step 2: Prepare your documents in digital format: NIN slip, birth certificate or age declaration, SSCE result (both sittings if combined), higher qualification certificate, NYSC certificate, passport photograph, and local government certificate of origin.
Step 3: Visit recruitment.ndlea.gov.ng and click 'New Registration'. Create an account using a working email address that you check daily — all communications will be sent there.
Step 4: Fill in the application form with your personal, educational, and work history details. Select your preferred cadre and state of choice. Be honest about everything — background checks ARE performed and lying disqualifies you.
Step 5: Upload all required documents in the specified format. Ensure scans are clear and readable.
Step 6: Submit your application and download/print the acknowledgement slip. Note your application reference number.
Step 7: Monitor your email for screening date notifications. If shortlisted, you will be invited for document verification, physical screening, aptitude test, and medical fitness — usually at a state command centre.
Step 8: Prepare physically. Start running 5km daily, practice push-ups and sit-ups. The physical test is where most applicants fail.
What NDLEA Actually Looks For
Physical fitness above paper qualifications. Many first-class graduates fail the physical test. NDLEA needs officers who can run, climb, and physically subdue suspects.
Mental stability. Psychological screening checks for suitability to handle the stress of drug law enforcement work. Demonstrate composure during interviews.
State of origin balance. Federal character is enforced — each state gets quota positions. Applying for an under-represented state increases your odds.
Clean background. Any whiff of a criminal record, social media extremism, or membership in banned groups ends your application. Clean up your social media before applying.
Specialised skills are a bonus. Fluency in Arabic, French, or Spanish (trafficking corridor languages) gives you a real edge in Superintendent Cadre applications.

When will NDLEA Recruitment 2026 start?
+
NDLEA recruitment dates are announced through the official portal and verified social media pages. Recruitment cycles do not happen every year — the most recent major intake was 2024. Check recruitment.ndlea.gov.ng directly before believing any site that claims the portal is currently open.
Is NDLEA recruitment free?
+
Yes. All legitimate Nigerian government recruitment is 100% free. If any recruiter, officer, or middleman asks for money to 'help you get in', they are running a scam. Report it to ICPC or EFCC.
What is the height requirement for NDLEA?
+
Males must be at least 1.7 metres (5 feet 7 inches). Females must be at least 1.64 metres (5 feet 4 inches). This is measured at physical screening without shoes — there is no compromise.
Can I apply for NDLEA with HND?

Yes. HND holders qualify for the Superintendent Cadre (Assistant Superintendent Narcotics) just like Bachelor's degree holders, provided your HND is from a NBTE-accredited polytechnic.
Does NDLEA accept applicants with tattoos?
+
Small, hidden tattoos are usually accepted. Visible tattoos (face, neck, forearms) typically disqualify. Women with ear piercings are accepted; body piercings beyond ears are not.
How long does NDLEA training take?
+
Basic training lasts approximately 6-9 months at the NDLEA Academy in Jos, Plateau State. It includes physical conditioning, weapons handling, law enforcement procedures, and drug identification.
