What is NPower?

NPower is a job creation and youth empowerment programme launched by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2016. It targets unemployed Nigerian graduates and non-graduates between 18 and 35 years, providing them with practical skills, mentorship, and a monthly stipend while they serve in various sectors.

NPower operates under the National Social Investment Management System (NASIMS) which is the official portal for all applications, shortlisting, and beneficiary management. Since inception, NPower has engaged over 1 million Nigerian youths across multiple batches — from Batch A (2016) through Batch C Stream 2 in 2022.

The programme is structured across graduate and non-graduate streams. Graduates work in teaching, health, agriculture, and public service. Non-graduates learn practical skills in construction (Build), technology (Tech Software and Hardware), creative arts, and entrepreneurship — preparing them to become self-employed or enter the formal workforce.

NPower 2026 Programmes Available

For the 2026 recruitment cycle, NPower is expected to continue its existing programme structure. Here is what each programme entails so you can pick the right one before applying.

N-Teach: For graduates with a teaching interest. Beneficiaries are deployed to public schools across Nigeria to assist with teaching, learning, and administrative functions. Monthly stipend is ₦30,000. Duration is 2 years.

N-Health: Open to graduate nurses, pharmacists, midwives, and allied health professionals. Beneficiaries work at Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across rural and urban Nigeria. Stipend and duration match N-Teach.

N-Agro: Graduates in agriculture and related fields are deployed to extension service centres to help farmers adopt improved practices. Ideal for agricultural economics, agronomy, and extension graduates.

N-Tech Software & Hardware: Non-graduate programme for Nigerians aged 18-35 interested in software development, computer hardware, or digital skills. Provides 2 years of hands-on training plus a ₦30,000 monthly stipend.

N-Build: Non-graduate programme focused on construction trades — carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical installation, and automobile mechanics. Beneficiaries train at certified facilities and receive certifications upon completion.

N-Creative: Targets young Nigerians interested in creative industries — film, animation, music production, post-production, and content creation. Short-duration intensive training with placement support.

NPower 2026 Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for NPower 2026, you must meet the following baseline requirements. Specific programmes may have additional requirements — always check the programme-specific page on nasims.gov.ng before submitting.

Nationality: You must be a Nigerian citizen. Dual nationals are eligible if they hold valid Nigerian citizenship.

Age: You must be between 18 and 35 years old as of the application date. Applicants above 35 will be automatically disqualified.

Education: For graduate programmes (N-Teach, N-Health, N-Agro, N-Build Graduate), you must hold at least a Bachelor's degree or HND from a recognised Nigerian or foreign institution. For non-graduate programmes (N-Tech, N-Build Non-Graduate, N-Creative), a minimum of secondary school certificate (WAEC/NECO with 5 credits including English and Mathematics) is required.

NYSC: Graduate applicants must have completed NYSC or have a valid exemption/exclusion certificate. Applications from serving corps members are not accepted.

BVN: You must have an active Bank Verification Number. Stipends are paid only to BVN-linked bank accounts in the applicant's own name.

Documents: Valid National Identification Number (NIN), a functional email address, and a phone number registered in your name are all mandatory.

Step-by-Step: How to Apply for NPower 2026

Step 1: Gather all required documents BEFORE going to the portal. You will need your NIN, BVN, NYSC certificate (or WAEC/NECO for non-graduates), degree certificate, passport photo, and your credentials to register. Having everything ready avoids session timeouts.

Step 2: Visit the official portal at nasims.gov.ng — this is the ONLY authentic portal. Bookmark it. Never trust any site claiming to be the 'NPower portal' that uses a different domain.

Step 3: Click 'New Registration' on the homepage. Enter your NIN — the system will auto-populate your personal details from the National Identity Database.

Step 4: Complete the registration form with your contact details, educational qualifications, BVN, and state of residence. Upload the required documents in the specified format (usually PDF for certificates and JPG for photos, each under 200KB).

Step 5: Select your preferred programme (N-Teach, N-Health, N-Tech, etc.). You can typically choose one primary and one alternate programme.

Step 6: Review your entire application carefully. Once submitted, NO EDITS are allowed. Double-check spelling of names, degree information, and account numbers.

Step 7: Submit and print the acknowledgement slip. Save a PDF copy and your application reference number. You will need both during shortlisting.

Step 8: Monitor your email and SMS for screening notifications. Shortlisted candidates receive assessment dates, usually within 4-8 weeks of the registration deadline.

Common Mistakes That Disqualify Applicants

Mismatched details between NIN and application. Your name, date of birth, and state of origin on the application must exactly match your NIN records. Common culprits: using a married name when NIN has maiden name, or typos in your year of birth.

Uploading poor-quality documents. Blurry, upside-down, or watermarked scans get flagged. Scan at 300 DPI minimum and save as clean PDFs or JPGs.

Using someone else's BVN or bank account. Stipends are paid only to the BVN holder. Providing a relative's account gets the application cancelled and may lead to a permanent ban from the programme.

Applying from multiple email addresses or with multiple phone numbers. The system detects duplicate applications and flags all of them. One applicant = one application.

Missing the deadline. NPower does not extend closing dates once announced. Do not wait until the last day — portal traffic crashes the site in the final 72 hours.
