ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING SPECIALIST (STARLINK DEVELOPMENT)
SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.
We are seeking a highly skilled, self-directed Additive Specialist to independently own the setup, operation, post-processing, continuous improvement, and growth of our multi-technology 3D printing lab. This role is critical to accelerating Starlink product development, factory tooling, and automation in a fast-paced environment.
You will take full ownership of printer operations across FDM, SLA, SLS, and emerging technologies. You will drive capacity, quality, efficiency, and process maturity while serving as the primary technical expert and point of contact for the additive shop. The ideal candidate thrives with autonomy, wears multiple hats, partners closely with engineering on Design for Manufacturability (DFM), develops team capabilities through training and documentation, and proactively expands the shop’s capabilities to meet ambitious development timelines.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Independently own end-to-end additive manufacturing operations: set up, operate, monitor, and turn over multiple industrial 3D printers (FDM, SLA, SLS, and others) in accordance with manufacturer procedures, industry standards, and engineering specifications.
• Lead all post-print processing, including powder removal, support removal, polishing, finishing, and dimensional inspection to ensure parts meet quality and engineering requirements.
• Serve as the primary owner for equipment health: perform routine and preventive maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and act as the main point of contact for OEM/distributor service.
• Continuously improve shop capabilities, capacity, quality, and throughput through process optimization, efficiency projects, and implementation of best practices.
• Provide proactive DFM feedback and process recommendations to engineering teams; assist with design and build plan optimization for additive manufacturability.
• Partner with engineering to create, maintain, and continuously improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); ensure all SOPs remain accurate, relevant, and up to date.
• Develop and deliver comprehensive training to all additive personnel; effectively communicate process changes and updates across the team.
• Own the cleanliness, organization, and overall readiness of the 3D printing lab; provide direct inp
