We are seeking a Corporate Controller to build and scale our accounting function during an important stage of growth. This highly visible, hands-on leadership role will own the close, strengthen controls, maintain financial-record integrity, lead the accounting workstream for ERP implementation, and develop a high-performing team. The right candidate can create structure, exercise sound operating judgment, and improve processes without taking over every task personally.
What You'll Own
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Own and continuously improve the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including the close calendar, accountability, reconciliations, journal-entry review, budget-to-actual reporting, and close-quality controls.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and financial system of record, creating a disciplined environment ready for auditor, lender, and investor scrutiny.
- Design and document accounting policies, segregation of duties, approval workflows, and evidence of control performance.
- Own vendor-master integrity and payment-fraud prevention through authenticated bank-detail changes, dual approval, bank controls, periodic master-data review, and staff education.
- Transition recurring general-ledger and Finance governance responsibilities from interim support to permanent internal owners or a documented automation backlog.
Tax, Supplier Compliance, and Audit
- Partner with the VP of Finance to maintain and enhance CloudFit's multi-state sales and use tax compliance program, including registrations, exemption certificate management, SKU mapping, nexus monitoring, and apportionment activities.
- Collaborate with the VP of Finance and external compliance partners to support supplier compliance requirements, including 1099 reporting, W-9 documentation, worker classification assessments, and insurance certificate tracking.
- Serve as the primary day-to-day liaison for external audit activities, coordinating requests and deliverables while working closely with the VP of Finance to support audit strategy, communication, and resolution of key matters.
Team, Workforce, and Core Leadership
- Manage and develop the FinOps Analyst, followed by the Project Accountant and a future Purchase-to-Pay Manager as business volume requires.
- Lead performance management, professional development, compensation recommendations, staffing decisions, workload design, and clear cross-functional accountability.
- Oversee payroll-related general-ledger reconciliations, workforce budgeting and forecast inputs, and project-cost accounting performed within Finance Operations.
ERP and Process Transformation
- Partner with the VP of Finance to represent accounting requirements and priorities in ERP evaluation, selection, and implementation activities, helping ensure the solution supports CloudFit's growth, reporting, and operational needs.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to streamline accounting workflows, strengthen documentation, and leverage technology and automation to enhance efficiency and support a timely close process.
What We're Looking For
- Demonstrated ownership of a complete financial close process and experience producing audited financial statements and supporting external audits.
- Multi-state registration and apportionment experience.
- Cost-accounting experience in a project-based, subcontractor-heavy, supplier-heavy, engineering, construction, or similarly complex environment.
- Experience as the accounting or general-ledger counterpart to an HR-owned payroll function.
- Expertise in vendor-master and payment-fraud controls, including segregation of duties, authenticated bank-detail changes, approval structures, bank controls, master-data review, and employee education.
- Business ownership of an ERP implementation across process design, requirements, configuration governance, testing, issue resolution, and deployment.
